It’s possible to spend hours researching abortion and still be missing information that applies specifically to you.

Online information can explain how abortion procedures work, but it cannot tell you details like the location or gestational age of your pregnancy. Those need to be confirmed through an ultrasound.

Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach offers urine pregnancy testing and can provide an ultrasound referral to help you learn more about your pregnancy and options. Schedule an appointment if you’re considering abortion and want to gather more information about your pregnancy.

Your Dates May Be an Estimate

Gestational age is typically calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period. That works as a starting point, but not everyone has a predictable cycle or remembers the date precisely.

Ultrasound uses measurements from the pregnancy to help estimate gestational age.

Why does that matter when researching abortion? The abortion pill is only FDA-approved through 10 weeks of gestation. Later abortions involve different procedures.

An estimate that is off by a week or two could therefore change which information is relevant.

Location Is Crucial to Know

Pregnancy tests detect hCG. They don’t indicate where implantation occurred.

Most pregnancies develop in the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy, however, implants somewhere outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube.

This requires immediate medical treatment, not an elective abortion. If an ectopic pregnancy ruptures, internal bleeding can become life-threatening.

Symptoms such as severe abdominal or pelvic pain, fainting, shoulder pain, or significant bleeding require emergency medical attention.

The Pregnancy May Have Ended Naturally

As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, sometimes before you even realize you’re pregnant.

After a miscarriage, hCG may remain detectable for some time. This means you could still receive a positive pregnancy test even though the pregnancy has stopped developing.

An ultrasound can be used to look for signs of life, such as a heartbeat. If you have miscarried, you may require monitoring to ensure the pregnancy tissue has passed and there are no complications. Any medical treatment for a miscarriage would be different from choosing to have an elective abortion.

How We Can Help

Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach can provide a urine pregnancy test, and if it’s positive, we’ll arrange an ultrasound referral.

That referral gives you access to details that a positive test cannot provide. We can also discuss the risks and side effects of abortion and ensure questions about your options are answered.
