Three Options

If being pregnant wasn’t even on your radar right now, we imagine you’re a little shocked. Sit down and take a deep breath. You’ve got this.

Once you’ve confirmed your pregnancy with a clinical pregnancy test, it’s time to talk about your three options. One of our pregnancy counselors will be happy to go over them with you. We want to empower you to make a confident choice, and we know learning more about each option will help.

Our counseling is free and completely confidential.

1.) Parenting

Choosing to parent at this time is a difficult decision that requires strength. Everyone who’s been a parent will tell you it’s filled with challenges, but a lot of rewards too. When thinking about parenting, you need to consider both today and your future. Consider how you will provide financially and emotionally for your child. Do you want to finish school or begin a career? Where do you hope to be in five years from now …  in ten?

If you and your partner are considering marriage or co-parenting, it could be much easier. But we recommend that you don’t choose to get married just because you’re pregnant. Statistics show divorce rates are very high when couples marry for that reason. Ask yourself, “If I weren’t pregnant, would I get married to him right now?” Parenting will also be easier if you have a strong support group. Is your family willing to help you parent? Find out who around you is truly able to give you the support you need.

2.) Adoption

Adoption is a truly brave decision. It’s also a very hard decision, but sometimes the hardest ones turn out to be the best decisions we’ve ever made. Few mothers ever want to “give her baby away” or “put her baby up for adoption.” We actually don’t even use those phrases anymore because they are dishonoring to children. No, a loving mother makes a plan for the security, love, and future of her child.  That is the love of adoption.

If you’re in a place right now where being a mother on a day-to-day basis just isn’t the best option, then be a mother who lovingly provides for her child in another way. Adoption doesn’t mean you’re no longer a mother. It means you’ve chosen to mother differently. You will always be a part of your child’s story.

3.) Abortion

Your third option for your unplanned pregnancy is abortion, but it is important to know that abortion is now illegal in Texas.

Abortion is also a difficult decision to make. There are side effects and potential risks with every method. If you would like to learn more about abortion procedures, side effects, and risks, contact one of our pregnancy counselors today. We promise to give you factual information, but we do not make abortion referrals.

You can also learn more at A Woman’s Right to Know. This booklet has good, factual information about abortion and how babies develop in the womb. It was, however, written before abortion laws changed in Texas, so you will have to keep that in mind when reading it.
