Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be very stressful. Sit down, take a deep breath, think and pray. The decisions you make in the next few months will affect you for the rest of your life. Give yourself time to make the best decision for you and your baby.

Your emotional support system: How are your relationships with family, friends, the father of your baby?
Your schedule: How will you continue with school or your job?
Your medical bills: Do you have insurance or need help applying for Medicaid?
Healthy Pregnancy Do’s and Dont’s
- Acknowledge that your body is changing and allow yourself more time for rest.
- Start taking pre-natal vitamins. If a doctor has not given you a prescription vitamin yet, just go to a local pharmacy and buy some over-the-counter pre-natal vitamins. (If you can’t afford vitamins, APO can help.)
- Start seeing a doctor early in your pregnancy. Early prenatal care prevents many problems.
- Exercise (Unless, of course, your doctor puts restrictions on you for medical reasons.) Exercise helps control your weight, improves your mood, and helps you sleep better.
- Eat foods rich in Folic Acid. They help your baby’s spinal cord development. Add foods like these to your diet: Bread, pasta, cereal, beans, rice, leafy green vegetables, citrus fruits (like oranges and orange juice.)
- Don’t drink alcohol. It can cause your baby to be born with mental disabilities and physical disabilities. (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome)
- Don’t use drugs. Drugs can cause your baby to be born with mental disabilities and physical disabilities.
- Don’t smoke tobacco. Smoking is not good for babies, however, it is not as bad as alcohol and drugs. Quit or cut back if you can.
- Don’t lift heavy things.
- Don’t change kitty litter. Cats can carry toxoplasmosis which you could catch by coming in contact with cat feces.
- Stay away from harsh chemicals.
- Don’t hang out in a sauna or hot tub. High temps can harm your baby.
- Don’t use essential oils unless you clear it with your doctor first.
