Characteristics Of A Host Family

  • Has a love for Christ and a desire to serve others
  • Has a mother figure in the home, preferably working less than 20 hours per week, who is perhaps able to attend doctor’s visits with the girl.
  • Does not have teenaged boys in the home or young adult, unmarried men in the home.
  • Small children in the home are wonderful and give an opportunity for Host Parents to model parenting.
  • Has a spare bedroom so our APO girl would not be sharing a room with a family member.

Application Process For Becoming A Host Family

  1. Download the Client Contact Volunteer Application. When complete, save to your computer and send as an attachment to: volunteer@pregnancyoutreach.org.   In the body of your email, explain your interest in hosting a pregnant woman in your home.
  2. Set up an interview with an APO staff member. We will discuss both the joys and challenges of host family living, what you can expect from APO, and what APO can expect from your family.
  3. Submit consent for background checks.
  4. We will give you paperwork for the drug screen and TB test.
  5. When a pregnant woman in need comes to APO for help, we will assess her needs. If it seems your home could be a good fit for her, we will arrange for you to meet her with APO staff members in attendance.
  6. If you feel this is a good fit for your family, we will introduce your home and the basic ground rules for living in your home.
  7. Welcome her into your home!
