The following are items we need for our weekly program that supports teen parents. (The Mama Club and Real Men)
Additionally, we need non-perishable food items for our care closet. This is for our clients in dire need; clients who have nothing at home to eat. Food from our care closet is available to feed them for a day or two until they can access a local food pantry. Many of our clients don’t have access to a full kitchen, so we request items that need little to no preparation. We have listed a few food items on our Amazon Wish List or food can be purchased locally and dropped by our office.
Finally, we can use gift cards to Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Dollar Tree for craft supplies for our Mama Club program. All our craft projects are intentionally designed to promote attachment between teen mother and child.
When our stock not is full, and we have plenty of storage space, we are able to accept these items:
Donations of baby gear and clothes go into our “Mama Store.” Teen moms “buy” items with “Mama Bucks” they earn by attending our Mama Club program and participating in activities. These young parents are so grateful for the everyday items (like clothes) they can “buy” for their children each week. We have the necessities priced at the same amount of Mama Bucks they can earn in one night. Additionally, they are learning to save their Mama Bucks to purchase larger items they want, such as pack-n-plays, strollers and high chairs. For most, being able to use Mama Bucks is their first opportunity to provide for their child without having to ask someone else for financial assistance. Not only are the items in the Mama Store great incentives for the girls to attend Mama Club, but they provide a desperately needed resource. Learn more about our Mama Club program here!
A board book is a type of children’s book printed on thick paperboard. APO gives away about 30 board books each week to teen parents and their children who attend Mama Club. Emphasis on the importance of reading is just one of the many parenting skills taught to our teen parents to ensure the health and well-being of their babies. You can help support APO’s endeavor to improve early childhood literacy through your gift of books or board books.
We are grateful for all financial support! Learn more about making one-time and recurring donations here.
