The families who adopt through APO are Christian couples who have been married for at least three years. One parent commits to staying-at-home (working no more than 20 hours per week outside the home) until the child reaches kindergarten. Before being accepted into APO’s adoption program, each family undergoes extensive screening which includes:
FBI background checks, reference checks, assessment of financial stability, health, motivations to adopt, and more. Each couple also attends many hours of adoption and parenting education, as well as support group before, during and after the adoption.
Each couple creates a “Life Book” when they enter our agency. This is like a scrap book they create to introduce themselves to those considering adoption. The Life Book includes letters from the family and photographs of their home, pets, hobbies, relatives, etc. Pregnant couples who are considering adoption for their child can view Life Books at the APO office or check them out overnight.
Families wanting information about adopting through APO should go to our Information Packet for Adoptive Couples.
